Serving the Studio City communites for over 30 years
Summer is over, and if you’re anything like me, you’ve returned from vacation and are ready to get back at it.
We worked hard to get in shape for summer. We trained consistently, ate well, stayed disciplined, and earned that summer body. Then, after just a few weeks of relaxing, enjoying ourselves, and eating a little more than usual, it suddenly feels as if all that hard work has vanished. We feel sluggish, out of shape, and somehow worse than ever.
If you’re like me, you don’t just want your body back—you want to regain that feeling. You want to feel strong, lean, energetic, and confident once again.
So, we rush back to the gym… and reality hits.
The weights feel heavier, and cardio feels more challenging. Our movements are less fluid, leading us to wonder, “How did I lose my progress so quickly?”
After more than 30 years in this industry, I’ve learned an important lesson: getting back in shape is as much a mental process as it is a physical one.
Here are two things that will help you get there more quickly.
1. Be Patient.
This is where most people encounter difficulties. We don’t just want to be in shape again—we want to feel in shape again. Read that one more time.
We want to experience it.
That feeling doesn’t return after just one workout. It takes days or even weeks of vacation, restaurant meals, sleeping in, and taking it easy to lose that “tight, strong, and fit” feeling. It’s unrealistic to expect a single workout to undo all of that.
Stop chasing the feeling. Instead, pursue the habits.
The feeling will return once you’ve earned it—after enough consistent workouts, nutritious meals, and quality sleep. One day, you’ll wake up and, without even realizing it, feel lean, energized, and strong again.
Trust the process. Be patient.
2. Focus on the Future
Stop comparing yourself to the version of yourself that existed before vacation.
That person isn’t gone—they’re simply waiting for you to rebuild the habits that shaped them. Take a deep breath. Focus on one meal at a time. One workout at a time. One day at a time. Every healthy meal is a victory. Every workout is progress.
Every good decision brings you one step closer.
When you feel out of breath during a workout, slow down if necessary. Your fitness will improve over time as your body adapts. Give yourself permission to transition gradually instead of expecting perfection overnight. Progress isn’t about punishing yourself.
It’s about consistently showing up.
Your body remembers.
It remembers how to become stronger.
It remembers how to become leaner.
It remembers how to perform.
If you have done it once, you can definitely do it again. Getting in shape is a process, and so is feeling like you are in shape. Just like muscles, confidence and momentum are developed over time. Give yourself the opportunity to become the best version of yourself once again.
If you need a little extra accountability, motivation, or a plan to get back on track, don’t hesitate to reach out. We would be happy to help you achieve your goals. Thank you and good luck.
